If you watch one thing today........
As lovely as it’s been to be back on the roads teaching our awesome pupils, it’s been pretty disheartening to witness so much bad driving. The impatient drivers apparently unable to spend an extra few seconds behind a learner doing 28mph in a 30mph limit - feeling like a dangerous overtake is appropriate in that situation. Motorists sounding their horns at learners taking an extra split second to pull away safely & smoothly.
However, by far the worst are those drivers who feel their mobile phone is worth risking their lives and the lives of other roads users for! If I had £1 for every time I saw a driver openly using the phone while driving I’d now be retired and living on a majestic country estate. It’s also obvious that there is no one ‘type’ of offender. Young, old, rich and poor - drivers of every size, shape, colour & creed believe they can safely driver with their phone in hand. It‘s just as likely to be a driver in a £50,000 Mercedes as it is the driver of a £500 Vauxhall. Every driver should have heard about the risks, read a story about someone killed or injured by a driver on their phone and know the punishment if you’re caught in the act. However, from what I see day to day the problem remains - and if anything it‘s getting worse!
The other day, whilst losing an hour or two on YouTube I came across a video made by the car manufacturer Lexus - I’m not always a fam of American presentation but this really emphasises the risks of driving whilst using your phone.
Have a watch and then ask yourself - is that call, text or email really worth spending the rest of your life with regret?
Thanks for reading (and watching) - have a great week and stay safe!
