FAQ's

You've got questions, we’ve got answers!

What do I need to do before I can start lessons?

There are only two things you need before starting driving lessons. Firstly, you will need a UK provisional driving licence - if you don't already have one you can apply for one by following this link:- Apply for your first provisional driving licence - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

You will also need to be able to read a standard vehicle number plate from 20 metres away. We will need to see your licence at the start of your first lesson and we will also conduct a sight test at this time.

If you are not a UK national and have a driving licence from another country please get in touch so we can advise regarding your individual licence requirements:-

How long will it take me to pass my test?

Have you ever heard the well known phrase "how long is a piece of string?". The DVSA have carried out surveys and believe that an average beginner requires 45 hours of professional tuition along with 22 hours of private practice. However, there are many different factors that can affect the amount of time it takes to reach 'test standard'. As such, how long it takes depends largely on the learner themselves, the standard of the tuition they receive and they're ability to practice privately - however, rest assured that our aim is to get you to the desired standard as quickly as possible whilst not compromising safety.

Can I use my lesson to get to or from work/college?

Of course you can......within reason! Not all lesson subjects will involve enough distance but I'm happy to be flexible and collect from or drop off at different addresses. If you'd like to discuss this further please get in touch:-

Is there anything I can do before starting lessons?

Other than ensuring you have arranged and received your provisional licence it will help if you have at least started to revise for your driving theory test. The days of having to have a hard copy of the highway code are gone, the modern age has seen the rise of mobile learning and the DVSA have produced an excellent smartphone/tablet app that helps you with both the theory questions and hazard perception. These can be found on the Google Play Store                   or the Apple App Store

Can I block book lessons?

Of course - you can block book as many lessons as you like! If you're happy to pay upfront there may even be a discount available. Regular lessons is the key to gaining confidence and passing your test in good time.

How do you charge for your lessons?

Lessons are for full hours but you can have multiple lessons in one session - in fact I would always recomend 2 hour lessons where possible. Also, the longer the lesson the lower the price! For more details click here:-

Which car will I use for my test?

That is completely up to you! 99% of people who have learned to drive with a professional driving instructor will use the same vehicle that they've learned in. However, you don't have to do this - you can use your own car or any car you are insured to drive for your test. You can discuss the options and restrictions with Martin when you are at the point of booking your practical test.
